Fellow Writer Interview
Three years ago I conducted an interview with a fellow writer on meadium.com. He was one of the first writers on the site that I discovered. I found his articles informative and interesting. So for this week’s article, I wanted to share the interview with all you people.
For this interview, I have chosen August Birch. He is one of the first writers here on the medium site that I discovered when I first joined. I make it a habit to read his articles whenever I can.
He is informative and has given such great advice for writing on medium. And talks a lot about creating many income streams.
He is also one who is not afraid to go against medium curation rules to form his own way on this platform.
Now onto the interview:
Me: How long have you been writing on Medium?
August: I’ve been writing on Medium for about a year and a half.
Me: Is blogging your full-time career? or do you have a second job outside of your home?
August: My publishing business is my passion and my best work, but not my full-time job. I’m my day job I am a research scientist, but working hard to make my publishing income overtake my day job income.
Me: What types of income streams do you have?
August: A book, courses, freelance writing, Medium, affiliate income, and occasional consulting (but I try to keep that minimal).
Me: What topics do you like to write about?
August: I teach writers and creators how to create work that sells and sell more of that work once it’s created.
Me: What is your next big goal?
August: To have my writing and teaching support my family 100% so I can focus all my efforts on helping others get what they want from their craft.
Me: How did you get into writing?
August: Originally it was journaling since I was in middle school. I branched out to non-fiction, article mills, and blogging. I’ve since moved to fiction as well.
Me: Why do you write?
August: I love the process of writing to express myself and I can write for hours of uninterrupted.
Me: Do you have any books published?
August: I currently have 1 fiction book published. I have five more yet to be published and I’ve written 12 non-fiction books which I’ve taken off the market.
Me: If so, are you published or self-published?
August: Self-published all the way. I’m a die-hard indie. They are my people.
Me: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
August: Operating a full-time publishing company, continuing my mission to help indie creators sell more of their work.
Me: What advice can you give to fellow writers?
August: Write every day. Don’t underestimate the amount of writing you can do on your phone. (I wrote an entire novel that way). You win, not by the daily effort, but by the accumulated body of work, over time.
