How to plan your office.
So you want to start a career in writing. If writing is your passion then that is wonderful news. It is a fun and exciting career path. Whether you are writing poetry, children’s books, fiction, or even nonfiction. There is nothing like watching your words just jump off the page and into your reader’s imagination.
But to have a successful writing career you’re going to need some equipment to use. Without the right equipment, your writing career won’t be very successful. And we want you to be successful in your new career.
Some of the equipment you will need can be used no matter where you decide to write. What do I mean by that? Well, you can write in your home or you can travel the world and write during your travels or you can write while sitting on the beach or by the ocean. The places are limitless.
The first thing you will need is either a laptop or a desktop computer. A laptop is great for the traveler while a desktop is great if you're the stay-at-home type of person.
Next, you will need a flash drive or a jump drive. This is for your storage of writing and research notes. By storing everything on your portable drive you are saving room on your computer and your saving room in your home.
Now if you are still old-fashioned and want to store your files in paper format you can then get a filing cabinet. Then you will need file folders and notepads to take your notes on.
Next, you will need a printer for your paper copies of your work or printing out the financial files that you will eventually need especially for tax purposes.
I would recommend investing in a Fax/Scan/copy/print printer. Brother has one that is very good. I plan on owning it one day. It prints at a penny per page in black and five cents per page in color. It will even give you up to 2 years of ink with the purchase of it.
Now you’re probably thinking that I forgot something in this list. Well, don’t worry I didn’t forget. If you’re working at home you are going to need a desk to work at and a chair to sit on. The style and the type you get don’t matter. All that matters is that it is comfortable and fits your needs. It also helps that it is something you like to sit at. Don’t forget to add a light on your desk especially if you plan on writing at night.
There is one last thing I will mention that you don’t want to forget. You can always use your phone when you’re traveling or when you’re out and about. You never know when inspiration will strike so having your phone handy will be a great asset to your writing career. Another good reason to have your phone is so you can research your topics check your email for business and send quarry letters. You can do all this from anywhere.
Now we have your workspace and your equipment figured out. You now have most of what you will need to begin your writing career. You’re all set to start your career. So now what is next? Well, the answer is simple.
“Go forth and write!”
